Use Job Roles to classify contacts in a way that suits your needs.
The Job Role can be used to filter contacts so you can target certain end-users for mail outs and other digital communications that you might want to have with the people recorded in your Contacts database.
If you are using a B2E portal (Business-to-Employee) then each employee is recorded as a ‘contact’ and their job role is defined when the employee registers. This is then used to control what items that employee is allowed to purchase in the B2E portal.
Example
Some examples to use are: Director, Chief Executive, Chief Financial Officer, Sales Manager, Purchasing Manager, Accounts Manager, IT Manager etc.
Note: You don’t need to have an exact role to match every corporate role on every business card you collect. The main focus here should be to use the job role list to categorise your contacts into groups that “roughly” identify their job role and responsibilities. The goal is to allow you to target a certain group or groups of contacts i.e. sales calls to all ‘Purchasing Managers’.
B2E portal example
Consider a situation where your customer is a medical centre and you sell medical supplies. The medical centre asks their employees to register and order their own supplies.
- Employee “Tom” registers as a ‘nurse’ and orders sutures & dressings
- Employee “Dick” registers as a ‘doctor’ and orders tongue depressors
- Employee “Harry” registers as a ‘dentist’ and orders fluoride paste
By assigning a ‘job role’ to an employee (contact), the types of products sold on the employee portal and limits for those products can relevant to the employee’s job.
Minimum Requirements
Use of Job Roles on Contacts is completely optional, so you don’t have to set up any at all if you don’t need to.
