Postcodes are used in addresses.
Postcodes can be useful as selection criteria in reporting and data exports and are often used by Carrier companies to determine cartage rates. Since there are often thousands of postcodes for a country, you may want to download postcodes from the country’s postal service web site and then upload them to OA. Then use this procedure to maintain postcode information on an on-going basis.
The term ‘postcode’ can be defined for a country if required. For example, the term ‘postcode’ is used in Australia, but the term ‘zip code’ is used in the USA.
A full set of Australian postcodes are provided with the software.
Examples
The 2000 postcode for Australia includes Sydney, The Rocks and Parliament House. When entering addresses you can enter postcode ‘2000’ and then choose the locality name from the provided list.
For Western Australia postcode 6000, a carrier might include this in their ‘Perth Metro’ area charge rate.
Minimum Requirements
It is not mandatory to set up postcodes – it really depends on whether you want to validate postcodes when entering addresses for a particular country.
