Model Products

Purpose

Release SymbolThis procedure is used to add or maintain a list of Products attached to a Model.

A ‘model’ is a special product that is used to group other similar products under one ‘Product Code’ (the ‘Model Code’). This makes it easy to access the group of products through the single ‘Model Code’. For example, the model can be used as a filter in reporting. Model is also a great way to group and consolidate details within a report.

A common example of use of models is where you have chosen not to configure the system with multiple sizes/colours switched on, and you have individual products representing a particular size and colour, all within a given ‘style’.

MINTS - Mint Striped Candy <--- the 'model'
MINTRS - Mint Red Striped Candy <--- products associated with this model
MINTGS - Mint Green Striped Candy
MINTBS - Mint Blue Striped Candy

To create a model and its associated products, simply create a new product via Product Details to represent the model. Then for each product that you wish to associate with the model, add the model code to the product in Product Details.

This function is an alternate way of creating and maintaining models that lets you view all associated products of the model on one screen.

Data Input

Step 1 – Model Code

Product

Enter an existing product code that represents the ‘model’. Note you cannot enter a product that is already attached to a model here – there are no ‘sub-models’.

Step 2 – Model Products

The list of products attached (or ‘associated with’) the entered model are displayed in the form of a list.
You may delete any products you no longer want associated with the model, or add new ones.

Importantly this function can also be used to create the correct sequence that the products will appear in for the model they are associated with.

Click on any of the column headings to sort by the data contained within the column. If sorting by column does not give you the desired result, you may manually sort items by clicking a row and doing a ‘drag and drop’ of the row to move it into the required position. The system will then remember the sequencing of each row. Note that the row you are moving will be placed above the row you ‘drag and drop’ it onto.

Product

Enter the product code to attach to the model. A product can only be attached to one model at a time. If your system is configured for multiple sizes/colours the size and colour of the associated product are required to be entered.

Product Size

Select the size of the attached product. This is used in e-commerce where the system is not configured for multiple sizes in Inventory. To be able to enter a size here when multiple sizes are not in use, you must previously have set up a Custom Data Set for the Product Master File to record the size and configured e-commerce to switch on the ‘model size/colour consolidation’ feature. Speak to your system administrator for further details on enabling this feature.

Product Colour

Select the colour of the attached product. This is used in e-commerce where the system is not configured for multiple sizes in Inventory. To be able to enter a colour here when multiple colours are not in use, you must previously have set up a Custom Data Set for the Product Master File to record the colour and configured e-commerce to switch on the ‘model size/colour consolidation’ feature. Speak to your system administrator for further details on enabling this feature.
